A new business, Premier Industries, will be opening its doors this year in Anaconda to process slag for use in the natural resource extraction industry. It is expected that the new plant will create approximately 100 jobs while adding to the local tax base.
Premier is not the first company interested in reusing Anaconda’s slag. In 2012, Atlantic Richfield Company, the responsible party of the Anaconda Smelter NPL site, entered into a contract with the Indiana-based manufacturing company, U.S. Minerals, to process and sell Anaconda’s slag for use in the roofing and abrasives markets.
